Water Treatment

Our activated carbon technology provides the best solution for a variety of water purification applications.

Industrial plants and municipal agencies widely choose our activated carbon products to equip their water filtration systems.

Newcarboncoming Activated Carbon is a leading global manufacturer of activated carbon solutions for water treatment, dedicated to providing high-performance products for a wide range of water quality challenges.

Our applications include:

  • Municipal water purification
  • Industrial wastewater management
  • Drinking water treatment
  • Swimming pool treatment
  • PFAS removal
  • Professional water systems

Our advanced activated carbon technology boasts superior adsorption capacity, efficiently removing organic compounds, chlorine, and various pollutants. Leveraging advanced production processes and a rigorous quality control system, we ensure that every batch meets international environmental standards and offers stable, reliable performance.

Different water treatment needs require different types of activated carbon.

Granular activated carbon: Effectively removes residual chlorine from water, adsorbs organic pollutants, and creates a chemically reducing environment.

Silver-loaded granular activated carbon: The addition of silver salts inhibits microbial growth, ideal for bacteriostatic water filters.

Catalytic activated carbon: Specifically designed to remove chloramines from drinking water.

Granular/extruded activated carbon: Effectively removes residual chlorine and various chemical substances.

Powdered activated carbon: Commonly used to adsorb trace amounts of synthetic organic matter and odor-causing substances, suitable for emergency response to chemical spills or algal blooms.

Industrial Wastewater Treatment

Wastewater from chemical plants, pharmaceutical factories, and printing and dyeing plants has complex compositions. Activated carbon is mainly used for:

  • Removal of recalcitrant organic matter
  • Decolorization and deodorization
  • Retention of toxic and harmful substances
  • Heavy metal adsorption
  • Protection of downstream equipment
  • Customer focus: High COD removal efficiency, long service life, low carbon consumption.

Municipal Wastewater Treatment

Activated carbon is commonly used in municipal wastewater treatment plants to meet discharge standards or for reclaimed water reuse. We offer various activated carbon formulations and equipment to treat specific pollutants at different proportions.

Tertiary Treatment: Further reduces COD and DOC.

Biological Activated Carbon (BAC) Method: Efficiently removes ammonia nitrogen and residual organic matter through adsorption and microbial degradation synergy.

Trace Pollutant Control: Removes extremely low concentrations of antibiotics, hormones, and other endocrine disruptors (EDCs).

Customer focus: Consistent performance, low pressure drop, high mechanical strength.

Drinking Water Treatment

In drinking water treatment, activated carbon primarily serves as a "taste optimization" and "safety barrier." Its core tasks include:

Odor Elimination: Powerfully removing geosmin and 2-MIB secreted by algae, eliminating the "earthy" taste of tap water.

Toxin Interception: Effectively adsorbing trace pesticide residues, antibiotics, and industrial chemical pollutants.

Disinfection Byproduct Removal: Adsorbing carcinogenic substances such as trihalomethanes (THMs) produced during chlorination.

Decolorization and Chlorine Removal: Adsorbing organic matter that causes water discoloration and removing residual chlorine.

Common forms include powdered activated carbon (PAC) for emergency treatment and granular activated carbon (GAC) for deep purification in water treatment plant filters. Customer focus: Food-grade certification, low ash content, no heavy metal leaching.

Ultrapure Water Treatment

In ultrapure water (UPW) production, activated carbon serves as a critical barrier in the pretreatment stage. Its core task is protecting downstream precision equipment rather than directly improving purity.

Specific responsibilities include:

Removal of residual chlorine

Removal of total organic matter (TOC)

Colloid and particulate interception

Customer focus: Low TOC leaching, high chlorine removal capacity, minimal fines.

PFAS Removal

Activated carbon is currently the most widely used and technologically mature method for removing per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from drinking water and wastewater:

Physical adsorption: Captures and immobilizes PFAS molecules within micropores through hydrophobic interactions and van der Waals forces.

Highly efficient removal of long-chain PFAS

Granular activated carbon (GAC) is the most widely used format, utilizing a filter bed for continuous PFAS adsorption in large-scale water treatment plants. Powdered activated carbon (PAC) is primarily used for sudden pollution incidents. Customer focus: High PFAS capacity, rapid adsorption kinetics, reliable performance.

Leachate Treatment

In landfill leachate treatment (extremely high-concentration wastewater), activated carbon is widely used as an advanced treatment unit or auxiliary biochemical unit to address high toxicity and variable composition.
Core Functions:
Removal of recalcitrant organic matter (COD)
Assisted denitrification
Heavy metal interception
Protection of downstream membrane systems
Enhanced biochemical performance
Customer focus: High COD removal under high-load conditions, good regeneration potential.

Our activated carbon is also used in many other water treatment applications, such as filter cartridge manufacturing and reverse osmosis systems. We can provide different product solutions for different water treatment applications.

We provide third-party certifications including Halal, Kosher, Food, and other culinary certifications
